Stepping Stones Women's Center is just that... a center for women by women. We will share our expertise and caring, compassionate service in a warm, comfortable atmosphere. From the beginning of your journey and beyond, we pledge to be here for you every step of the way. We are a fully accredited facility and are credentialed by the American Board of Certification for Orthotics and Prosthetics.
Stepping Stones Women's Center, LLC was born in 2005, but the vision for creating a caring, compassionate breast care facility had been long anticipated by our owners, Leigh Thurston and Peggy Norris , following their own personal experiences with breast cancer.
Peggy was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2002 at the age of 54 with no family history of the disease. It was quite a shock to Peggy and her family...but she bravely went through her surgery and recovery. Although still on maintenance medication, Peggy is doing well and is excited to be able to provide a positive experience to her survivor sisters. She teamed up with her daughter, Leigh Thurston, to create “Stepping Stones Women's Center.” An accountant by profession, Peggy deals with the business issues and customer service. She is also a trained fitter and is here to provide support that only another survivor can give.
After her mother's diagnosis, Leigh left her corporate sales job and went to work for the prosthetics company that Peggy went to for her post-mastectomy supplies. After working there for a couple of years under the supervision of a highly-qualified mentor, Leigh and Peggy decided to create an facility of their own in which a woman can restore her balance and image and replenish her spirit.
Leigh Thurston is an experienced Certified Mastectomy Fitter and is registered with the American Board of Certification of Orthotics and Prosthetics . She received her training from American Breast Care, Amoena USA, and Camp Healthcare. She is educated in lymphedema and is qualified to measure and fit compression garments. Additionally, Leigh is highly trained in chemo-induced hair loss and specializes in wigs & wig care.
Although fitting quality products to our customers' needs are of the utmost importance, we feel it is also important to provide access to information and assistance when needed. Please visit our Link page for resource information.
Finally, we participate with and support community programs for the fight against breast cancer. For example, we donate a portion of each sale referred to us by the American Cancer Society, VA Breast Cancer Foundation, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Sisters Network, or Massey Cancer Center.
